It’s everywhere you turn — signs of unintelligent life.
Here are two random examples of in-your-face abuse of the English language:
- Fan sign at a ballgame: “WE (LOVE) ARE NY (YANKEES)”
- Artwork on the sidewalk in front of a sign shop: “SMILE: YOUR ON CAMERA”
More than a petty rant or pet peeve, calling out such nonsense serves to redirect proper credit to those who continue to teach and learn English the write way.
My biggest pet peeve!
Stu – May I use “Must’ve stalled” in a writing session for new college students? Pictures are worth…
Of course — though it is a bit embarrassing that it’s a fan of my Yankees with the illiterate poster.
You’d never find this at a SF Giants game.
