GREAT WRITING GETS EVEN BETTER WITH AGE

By May 23, 2017Culture, Longevity

We readers — and all the journalists, novelists, screenwriters, lyricists, poets, speechwriters, jurists and other skilled wordsmiths whose writing captivates us — know this: The clarity and eloquence with which something is stated can make a common thought seem profound.

In a time when words are being lost to nonsensical abbreviations, when bad grammar is trendy, thoughts are shared unfiltered, and truth is debatable, we should show our gratitude by sharing authenticity when we read it. These beautifully articulated comments at once change and reinforce perspectives on growing older.

“A man over ninety is a great comfort to all his elderly neighbors: he is a picket-guard at the extreme outpost: and the young folks of sixty and seventy feel that the enemy must get past him before he can come near the camp.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

“We turn not older with years, but newer with every day.” – Emily Dickenson

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” – Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel)

With graduations happening all over America, the special words of Dr. Seuss are still being shared in Oh the Places You Will Go.

“Authentic writing that moves me and is beautifully articulated centers on me, my foundation, my career, my rings, and my love of myself.” LeBron James
