NEW YORK CITY – In news certain to knock the publishing world off its celebrated axis, Kim Kardashian West’s Selfish has been bumped from atop The New York Times bestsellers list for “Celebrity Vanity Projects.” Leslie Stahl’s Becoming Grandma is now the top-selling self-important, vainglorious book in the United States.
Stahl’s credentials include being a grandmother of two and correspondent with “60 Minutes.”
“My mom’s also on TV and a grandma because Kourt and I have kids, so what’s the big deal?” Kardashian West said in response to Stahl upstaging her.
Subtitled The Joys and Science of the New Grandparenting, Stahl explains that she used reporting skills to explore how grandmothering changes a woman’s life. With unprecedented insight, she writes of being “hit with a jolt of joy so intense and unexpected,” she wanted to “investigate it — as though it were a news flash.”
Early reviews have been universally friendly. “I am so amazed and delighted by the many impartial, validating critiques my book has received,” Stahl effused. “They are wonderfully fun and I couldn’t be more pleased than if I wrote them myself.”
